a hundred times over 2016: beta-reading

Welcome to the Beta-Reading Post! Kindly read the guidelines before signing up to become a beta-reader. Thank you very much. The mods will assist you in any way we can.

What's a beta-reader?
A beta-reader is a non-professional reader, providing input or polishing certain elements of the story.

What do they do?
It depends on what the participant asks. Usually, it would be editing grammar or style. Maybe even storyline.

I want to be a beta-reader, but have no experience.
That's fine, so long as you talk it through with the participant. In that event, you could become their buddy too. :)

How do I choose a beta?
Simple, we'll provide you with an archive of all the beta-readers that have applied, and you can choose from there. The beta form will be open until the duration of the fest, so you can choose them whenever you want. However, please note to choose a beta-reader ahead of the deadline to avoid problems that both of you may encounter.

Is it required that I choose a beta provided by the fest?
Nope. You may have your own beta outside of this fest.

Other Important Guidelines:

1. We encourage non-participants to sign-up as a beta-reader.
2. Please note that once you are a beta-reader to a participant, kindly keep the discussion between yourselves. Any information about the participant and their fic should remain anonymous until the end of the fest. :D
3. If in any case you might be unavailable to beta-read on specific dates, inform us as well. :D
4. Be encouraging to the participant and respectful with each other. :)
